This policy describes the information practices stated for the Stacked BioLabs website.
Comments and profile images
When a visitor submits a comment, the site collects the form entries, IP address, and browser user-agent information to assist with spam detection. A hash derived from the email address may be sent to Gravatar to check for a profile image. Gravatar’s practices are described in Automattic’s privacy policy. Once a comment is approved, the associated profile image is visible publicly beside it.
Images you upload
Remove embedded GPS location information from images before uploading them. A visitor who downloads an image may be able to extract location data stored in that file.
Cookies used by the site
A commenter can choose to save a name, email address, and website in cookies so those fields do not need to be completed again. These cookies last one year.
The login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether the browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal information and is removed when the browser closes.
On login, cookies retain the login state for two days and screen preferences for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps the login active for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies. Editing or publishing an article creates a separate cookie containing the article’s post ID, with no personal information; it expires after one day.
Content embedded from other sites
An embedded video, image, or article can behave as though you visited the external website directly. That provider may collect information, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and record interaction with the embedded content, including when you are signed in to an account with that provider.
Password resets and data sharing
A requested password-reset email includes the requester’s IP address. Visitor comments may be processed by an automated service that checks for spam.
Retention and account information
Comments and their associated metadata are retained indefinitely so later comments can be recognized and approved without returning to moderation. For registered users, the site stores the personal information supplied in the user profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their profile information, except for the username. Site administrators can also view and edit that information.
Requests concerning your information
If you hold an account or have submitted comments, you may request an export of the personal information held about you, including information you supplied. You may also request erasure. Information that must be retained for administrative, legal, or security purposes is excluded from erasure.
