Research background

Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow, the same institute that produced Semax. Tuftsin, the four-residue core, is a fragment of the immunoglobulin G heavy chain that activates phagocytic immune cells but is degraded quickly; adding Pro-Gly-Pro made the molecule far more durable in biological systems.

Published research, largely from Russian groups, studies Selank in animal models of anxiety and stress, in gene-expression work on GABAergic and monoamine signaling in the brain, and in immunology studies of cytokine balance.
